2009 is a big year in the life of Colborne Rotary. It was June 18, 60 years ago that the Cobourg Rotary Club sponsored Colborne Rotary in a ceremony at Memorial Park

The first Colborne Rotary President, John Best, received his gavel from Doug Tait, President of the sponsoring club.

Currently there are 20 members in the Colborne club - eight women and 12 men.

Life in Cramahe Township is a much richer experience because of the efforts of its Rotarians.

Colborne Rotary continues to be a major benefactor in the provision of Rotary Hall and the club has just finished paying for the playground equipment in Rotary Centennial Park.

It is currently paying $10,000 per year to support the Northumberland Hills Hospital in Cobourg. Those in need in the township can draw on a $5,000 fund set up by the club.

Scholarships, Camp Enterprise, Christmas hampers, high school awards, the Santa Claus Parade, Colborne Legion Remembrance Day, the Terry Fox Run, United Way, and the Gordon Hoselton Bursary all benefit from the largesse of the club's 20 members through their fundraising activities

This year Rotary hosted the kick-off Golf Tournament for Colborne’s 150th Celebration. The tournament raised over $2,000 for the Food for All foodbank.

The club is a part-sponsor of a Canadian flag to be flown at 401.

Currently Colborne Rotary is seeking out other community needs to commemorate its 60th year as a Rotary Club in Colborne.

“Service above Self” and the 4 way test - truth, fairness, friendships and beneficial to all, are the cornerstones of Rotary.

The Colborne Rotary Club meets every Monday evening at 6:15 pm, except holidays, with dinner at 6:30pm in the Rotary Hall at the Keeler Centre.

A programme that includes a variety of speakers and Rotary updates provides an atmosphere to share ideas and discuss projects. Did I mention we have a lot of fun as well?

Currently we are seeking out other community needs to commemorate our 60th year as a Rotary Club in Colborne.

Membership is not expensive, nor need it be time consuming. There are no minimum time commitments or constraints on how much you must do. If you enjoy fellowship, fun, a good group of people and a great feeling of satisfaction and pride from helping others, you just may fit in.

For more information call Betty or Al at 905-355-5890.
